I'm sincerely very happy for anyone who is enjoying the show but every time I see takes that the show has improved the book characterizations or that the book characters are underdeveloped in comparison to the show...
#our experiences are very different lmao#pjo show crit#sure the show isn't completely out yet#but id argue that the characters (namely the trio) seem way more developed and well-rounded in the book by this point in time (episode 4)#and look im not saying every change the show has made is bad#but by and far there has yet to be a change to characterization that feels like an IMPROVEMENT from the source material lmao#the closest contender I'd say is show Percy does seem a tad angrier than book Percy#but again I wouldn't call that an improvement... its just different and I think that /change/ works because it feels like the same essence#but even that has had some issues because I feel like the show has inadvertently cut down some of Percy's canon book empathy here and there#I think the show has nailed Annabeth's pride and intelligence and her warped worship of her mother#... but they've also made her hyper competent to the point that she's not making half of the mistakes she did in the book#which ISNT good because book annabeth is smart but she isn't infallible#its a big point that she has the theoretical intelligence but none of the real world experience/application#she gets tricked by medusa and goes to visit the Arch just cause she loves architecture and that's okay!! she's twelve and a nerd!#I also dont like that they've cut/toned down her little crush on Luke#actually they've not even showcased the familial bond between annabeth and Luke either in the show so like lmao#and then grover#by now grover's fear of failure and repeating this past mistakes and wanting a license has already been acknowledged in the books at least#in the show?? not so much#and his canon book suspicions and wariness of medusa... were given to annabeth#like medusa in the book was Grover's moment to shine cause his instincts were right!#and in the book fight he even very intentionally attacked medusa#but his highlights there were cut completely in the show#and finally sally#...idk who that is in the show but that's NOT my sally jackson#percy jackson#mine

The biggest thing keeping me rooting for Skailor in canon is the way she makes Kai crumple like a leaf
he literally burns himself with his own fire when talking to her oh my god

Does anyone else feel like almost all of the conflicts that had to do with the various character dynamics in Chain of Thorns didnā€™t actually get resolved, they just unexplainably ceased to exist after two books of building them up because CC didnā€™t feel like writing them anymore and she didnā€™t know how to resolve it naturally after how sheā€™d built the issues up so much?
Like how none of the characters but Cordelia and Thomas had any clue about the Alastair and Charles situation and then suddenly in CoT it was like who doesnā€™t know? Of course Matthew knew and didnā€™t say anything before and then randomly brought it up to Cordelia in Paris while assuming she knew too
Or how Alastair and Thomas went from how things were at the end of CoI with Alastair thinking it could never work because Thomasā€™s friends hate him to oh look everyone suddenly is friends with Alastair with no grudge with no development of that in this book at all, just an abrupt shift
Especially the Alastair and Matthew dynamic where Matthew hated Alastair and wanted him to have nothing to do with any of their friends and he spent CoI ranting about him to Cordelia. And then suddenly in CoT itā€™s like of course Matthew is supportive of Thomas and Alastair and oh look Matthew and Alastair are suddenly not just tolerating each other for Thomasā€™s sake but friends despite barely interacting and no development actually showing and never getting any mention of the other in their own ļæ¼POVs, just having Cordelia be like Alastair stop being dumb, youā€™re literally friends with him now
Or like everyone other than Christopher and Grace where it was like oh we donā€™t like her for how sheā€™s treated us and her friends straight to anyway sheā€™s one of us. Like yes Grace was useful and yes Tatiana manipulated her whole life, but none of that was why anyone changed their minds or opinions? It was just suddenly the flip of a switch when it was convenient for CC
Or Anna and Ariadne where it didnā€™t so much develop as Anna just acted mean to Ariadne on and off throughout the series and at the end of CoI she wanted nothing to do with a relationship and then in CoT she was just suddenly like sure I guess I do. Also, slightly different note, but I did not like that Anna barely interacted with anyone else for the entire book and she was just off in the corner being an irrelevant romantic subplot for almost all of the book except when she showed up to barely even be shown in the background being sad about her brother being dead
(Although Anna still got more of a reaction than everyone else and his death was poorly executed all around in the sense of how did you write this so predictably and poorly that no one even knows when he died and itā€™s so background and 99% of the characters donā€™t care at all and we donā€™t see his parents finding out or much of Thomasā€™s reaction or anything and itā€™s just as if he wasnā€™t a character anymore 2 seconds later which is a different genre of issue with CoT but similar problem in the sense that both issues made the book feel a lot more emotionless to read)
And how the issues of Thomas and Alastair being together as two men and Anna and Ariadne being together as two women in this time and the issues of what would happen if the fact that Charles and Alastair were gay got out to the entire Clave just disappeared and never got addressed at all. We know how the ClVe reacted to Alec Lightwood YEARS later. We know society was homophobic at the time TLH is set and that it seems like shadowhunter society was a lot less open-minded than mundanes a century later
I understand that Charles being blackmailed and making shitty decisions was annoying but it was like suddenly everyone finding out wouldnā€™t have consequences and all the other queer men characters were like how could you possibly be worried about this :/ as if they havenā€™t spent the whole series knowing they have to be careful about who they tell. And then suddenly it was just of course itā€™s totally fine and safe to have everyone find out and why wouldnā€™t you be fine with that. And it was really written in a way that had other queer characters like oh Charles is such a coward for not being ready to publicly tell a bunch of homophobic people his sexuality and it just wasnā€™t it??? And super weird after Thomas was terrified of telling even Anna and Matthew for years. And also, I did not care for the fact that when Charles did go risk getting outed to finally do the right thing, we didnā€™t even get to see it through any characterā€™s perspective or how that important meeting went, we just got one line of dialogue from somebody else saying that it happened with no details at all. And I canā€™t think of other examples right now but there were quite a few moments like that where we got one line saying that something had happened that was important to the plot and to charactersā€™ development that seemed like it would have been more interesting than some of what we did get to see where it was just totally breezed over and way too easy and totally background to less important stuff
And then there was the whole no one reacting to Ariadne and Anna dancing together publicly thing was like yeah thatā€™s nice I guess but not realistic and it doesnā€™t go with the way things have been presented up to that point, it also just feels like a situation where CC was like well this would be easier for me so there just wonā€™t be consequences and then they can easily end up happily together
And then there was the whole Thomas and Alastair thinking they couldnā€™t realistically be together thing and knowing they couldnā€™t get married or be known to be together by anyone theyā€™re not close to and then at the end itā€™s still not really addressed how theyā€™re going to be together? Like there was the laziest write off of the family tree being wrong and then we still are just left to assume that eventually they move in together and suddenly itā€™s not a problem and everyoneā€™s fine with it? And then I also feel like we donā€™t actually know if everyone found out about Alastair and Charlesā€™ sexualities after the blackmail or if people are going to assume about Thomas and Alastair or if thatā€™ll cause issues or if no one knows outside of who theyā€™ve told and they have to be careful or what. Which like wouldnā€™t necessarily need to be addressed if it wasnā€™t for the logistics of being together as two men in that time being part of the obstacle that they were struggling with being in their way and then it felt like it was totally forgotten to even be one at the end by CC
Idk like Iā€™d love to think they just lived in a world where homophobia didnā€™t exist but it felt like homophobia was a plot point when CC wanted it to be an inconvenience and then suddenly disappeared just to make her writing easier the moment she didnā€™t want it there anymore instead of actually addressing the plots she raised with it if that makes sense?
And sorry, I really did not mean to go on a rant this long. And maybe everyone else had a very different reading experience than I did and other people donā€™t agree with some or all of this. I personally am just very confused about how the book was almost 800 pages long and it felt like so much of the development in it was us abruptly being told that development had happened rather than actually getting to see it and how so many of the issues were abruptly solved in an I donā€™t want to write this issue anymore kind of way rather than anything actually needing to be worked at outside of the Belial situation
Edit: You know what, I mentioned it in my tags but I feel like itā€™s annoying enough to put in the body of the post and make it even longer. What the fuck was with everyone outing or potentially outing everyone else just so that characters could openly talk about the queer characters and tell them to do what they want them to? Why did Matthew out his brother multiple times? Like yes, the people he said it to coincidentally already knew, but he didnā€™t know that. And why was Thomas outing Alastair? The straights got to keep their secrets as long as they wanted and fix their problems more naturally. Why did I have to sit through queer characters constantly having their sexualities and romantic histories to everyone else when they clearly had not okayed it? Why were the queer characters doing so much of the outing? Why were people who cared about them and knew what it felt like to be afraid of the wrong person finding out just broadcasting their sexualities to make it easier for CC to breeze past development to have their things get resolved fast? Why did no character have an issue with it at all?
#As a queer person the whole using homophobia against her characters as plot just to pretend homophobia doesnā€™t exist and call her characters#cowards for worrying about it as soon as sheā€™s decided writing it doesnā€™t serve her plot agenda anymore really icks me right out#Like yeah Iā€™d love homophobia to not exist but girl what are you doing thatā€™s so gross to go about it that way#ALSO everyone outing or potentially outing everyone else to other characters to make it easier to get the queer characters to do what she#wanted them to was a HORRIBLE vibe. Why is Matthew outing his brother? Why is Thomas outing Alastair? Why is everyone telling everyone else#peopleā€™s sexualities as if itā€™s nothing and everyone has a right to know when that character clearly did not feel that way#And itā€™s so out of nowhere every time too#Hot take: Charles protecting Alastairā€™s privacy instead of outing him was more valid than anything any of the other queer characters said#about Charles or Alastairā€™s sexualities even if I hate Charles and his going along with the blackmail was bullshit#Also now that Iā€™ve written all of this down and 99% of what I wrote about in here has to do with the canon queer characters thatā€™s not#a great look either that she did breeze over some of the stuff with the other characters for sure but she was way more likely to skip depth#and development with the queer characters in CoT#CC said no slow burn gradual changes in this bookā€¦ thereā€™s only room for abrupt 180s and Cordelia running šŸƒā€ā™€ļø#Sorry if this has weird typos and other mistakes in it. colleis personality functionally being left to the ether because her webtoon iteration is at such fundamental odds with her game iteration that any attempts to temper between the two just range so dramatically
#each collei is a beautiful macrocosmic specimen to be analyzed in its own right#i do think the best and most canon-adherent way to reconcile between the two though is to recognize her emulation of amber#in both personality and appearance#as pretty much an explicitly canon thing if albeit exclusive to the game#& while i think it was meant to be a like. cute moeblob marketing strat and not a genuine extension of how she might develop#post black fire incident#it does tie really well into the webtoon establishing collei's fundamental lack of self identity & her pathological need to assume a Role#as per lee @haidengjie's dissertation: shes always either the unclean or the plague or the villain. shes never just collei#the last time she was seen as purely just Collei was also the last time she ever heard her mothers voice....#and ever since she has been denied the opportunity to exist even as a person w basic human rights#shes never been allowed to be simply just a child let alone herself#amber befriending collei for who she is & demonstrating she sees her more than just some street rat (who had KILLED TWO DIPLOMATIC ENVOYS#NONETHELESS) & insisting she would never abandon her#just changed. everything. for the first time there was no role to play no stage no script#the curtains fell... god i still love that scene Collei is just trying so hard to play the villain and amber obstinately refuses to let her#insisting that they are both friends and equals and wholeheartedly believing in collei's capacity for good and kindness#ITS SOOO INTERESTING BECAUSE OF COURSE AS SOON AS COLLEI LEARNS SHE DOESNT HAVE TO PLAY A ROLE#SHE'LL STILL SCRAMBLE NONETHELESS FOR A NEW ONE BECAUSE ITS ALL SHES EVER KNOWN#SO OF COURSE SHE WOULD TAKE UP THE ROLE OF AMBER!!!!!!! *WALKSINTO A LARGE PIT#god im still upset about windblume though they contextualized her amber roleplay as a coping mechanism#not for her identity issues or general ptsd but instead this like. palatable relatable version of social anxiety#which dont get me wrong i do adore and relate to that aspect of colleis character a lot but its coming from a framework that completely#disregards her personality from her source material and it really just feels like a flanderization to appear more marketable#Okay i have homeowrk to do byebye

would like to start this by saying there is DUH no time limit on answering this i sooooooooo get it <3
i finished legend of korra and have been mulling it over playing minecraft and just RRRHRHSDFERRRLKFD
i think my favorite part of the whole show is how humanized all the villains are? underneath it all theyre just guys who've been fucked over one too many times. and each time the *basis* of their quest is valid.. it's just that they go about it in ways that actively hurt people. it's like, okay, so you want this, but the people who are directly affected by this change have to *agree* with it before you start enacting it. you cant just... force people to change their entire way of life thats not how life works. which....... SUCH parallels to palestine im kinda going crazy over here bc its rlly just enforcing my like. not understanding of how zionists can uphold their ideology. really ANYONE who's belief system requires the putting down of another group. but especially with zionism.
its like.. ok sure you want the land but fun fact?? people literally already live there?? and you cant in any way make yourselves look like the good guys by forcing people out of their homes. ESPECIALLY when you already have your own land.
mainly connects to the fourth season lol
also lowkey HILARIOUS to me how much the spirit vines felt like a metaphor for nuclear power lmao. like ok?? way to go making a critique of something that happened like 70 years ago (when season four was released anyway).
obviously not the most eloquently put as it is past midnight and i am sorta shaking from either the windows being open or the avalanche of thoughts being had about korra (probably a combo)
my other favorite part got realized during the last episode and idk if you care about spoilers or not so i wont say anything too detailed but basically just admiring korra's growth as a character etc etc. tbh something the people making these shows are so good at????? like give the same attention as character arcs to romance plotlines :') (i will say, however, that by the time mako/asami/korra were all just friends i LOVED them it was never more awkward than it shouldve been and i super appreciated that)
RAHHHHH YEAH!!! oh man i knew u would love the villains they're just so fantastically done. i think my personal favorite had always been zaheer because of how interesting his philosophical debate was with korra but also as i've been rewatching i've also come to appreciate all three of the main villains just. how much their debates are also something that korra gets to (in some ways) understand?? iirc. and yeah it is horrific how it compares to real life and how vividly similar it is. tbh i find a lot of the comparison to current events also in the original atla just because like... the total destruction because they think that they deserve this power more, and then the insane propaganda that affects those on the inside if that makes sense. i didn't like the live action show but watching the first episode just had me sitting down and staring at a wall because in general just. how can we look at death like this and think that it's okay. anyway
i mean hey man we can always use some more critique of nuclear power it's always good to dissuade the kids who will become adults someday
anywho DO tell me more about korra's development i would love to hear ur thoughts (also YEAH the mako/asami/korra platonic dynamic was extremely nice and deeply appreciated. it settled nicely despite all of the pains)

Iā€™ve been thinking about Hyde!Wednesday, who has no idea what lurks beneath her skin. Her family has suspicions, theyā€™ve always known there was something special about Wednesday, even for an Addams, but theyā€™ve never thought to investigate too hard. After all, whatever it is will come out eventually, and they will love her just the same when it does. And if Fester recalls a section of a curious little book he read once upon a time, thatā€™s stuck in his mind where all else has been forgotten, who can say why.
In the aftermath of Crackstone, Wednesday finds herself unsettled. There is a sense of wrongness, like a word on the tip of her tongue that never reveals itself, everything appears to have shifted slightly to the left, and nobody but her can tell. Wednesday hasnā€™t felt like herself since she stumbled from the school gates and was bowled over by a pink blur. Somehow, having Enid in her arms had felt right, and leaving them wrong.
Her world has turned upside down.
Wednesday has always been quiet, she thrives in the silence, but since sheā€™s been home it remains just a little too quiet. Itā€™s too easy to forget sheā€™s home at all, her family finds. She no longer shies away from their contact, not from acceptance, oh no, she doesnā€™t even acknowledge it at all. Sometimes they will speak to her and itā€™s like she is a thousand miles away, unseeing, unhearing.
A rare moment of presentness has Morticia teasing her, perhaps her mind is with someone else, perhaps emotions are involved. No. Emotions are not the cause of this haunting in her mind, Wednesday knows. She had already come to terms with having developed feelings: chastisement for Xavier, protection for Eugene, respect for Bianca, and donā€™t even get her started on the affection for her roommate. No, Wednesday can recognise those, and has them locked away, so what is this consuming her?
#/mp#Wednesday Netflix#Wenclair#my writing tag#the tags tag#in this everything in s1 is actually canon and everyone has 0 idea at the time#maybe there is Hyde blood in the Addams line. maybe it doesn't need to be genetic. don't think about it too hard#what i'm getting at here is that wednesday's hyde was activated by a traumatic event. crackstone. and her hyde imprints on enid with the hug#wednesday had already developed feelings for her at this point and was ignoring them so no weirdness about that#wednesday be like im never going to fall in love and then have twice the capacity for obsession#S2 is the stalker - who KNOWS - trying to be the one to unlock her hyde and be her master. not knowing its already too late.#the stalker makes the stupid decision to take enid to get to wednesday. she drugs her. injured her. strings her up. and waits#enid - angry at herself for letting this happen - had tried so hard to fight against the drugs in her system. but it was useless.#she was useless. she didn't mean to say it but there was she was in so much pain. she whimpers wednesday...help#and something changes in Wednesday's eyes. and then with Wednesday.#and then wednesday as her hyde kills the stalker to protect enid in a nice parallel to wolf enid attacking tyler!hyde to protect wednesday#terrified moment once the deed is done where enid thinks she's going to die. but hyde!w just gently frees her from her bonds#and looks to her for more orders. and enid reaches out her shaking hand and cups her face and asks for wednesday back

anyways here's some thoughts i didn't want to clog up the notes of chapter two of when the shadows fall with :D (also! spoilery if you haven't read the chapter)
this chapter was very heavy with padmƩ references. this chapter highlights that leia is like anakin
i mean, this is true in canon too, but it is the unspoken words of this chapter "you're like your father". breha compares her to padmƩ, granted, but there are moments when all breha and bail can see is anakin, and it's not unfounded. leia is impulsive. she leaves the senate, she's impulsive and confident. she tears her bedroom apart in anger with the force.
they won't say she's like her father, given leia doesn't know who he is. they won't say because anakin turned to the darkside, and that is a real fear for leia. ESPECIALLY after she shatters her floor
it's also important for her ongoing identity crisis. she doesn't know who she is or who she's meant to be. relkin says she lives up to the name leia (which she doesn't know the meaning of). the voice named her ekkreth. breha compares her to padmƩ. she is the child of a jedi whose order failed. she is royalty and a senator's child. leia is being pulled in many different directions and she doesn't know what is right almost like anakin was. the one who was meant to free the slaves, the chosen one, the hero with no fear, a jedi on the council, a padawan, a master of a padawan who walked away, a hundred different things he didn't feel like he lived up to being
which is why i cannot stress the importance of this line:
ā€œOne day, you are going to do something that terrifies me. And I will have to hope that it is the right thing. That you are following the Light.ā€ Her Mom tipped her chin up so their eyes met. ā€œWe want to keep you safe. You must remember that we are here. We will help you.ā€
breha knows that she cannot control leia. she has to trust that leia, whilst similar to anakin, will not turn to the darkside. she reminds leia that breha and bail will love her, will be on her side, even if it all goes wrong. because she trusts leia will make the right choice in the end.
i have so much more i could say, but i will leave it there :)

tell me about solisverse galar!!! (bats my eyes at you)
OK SO LIKE. Im gonna talk about the main cast because thats the group Im insane crazy about. the defining motif for galar is worthiness! as I mentioned earlier. this manifests in different ways for everyone
for example hop is mainly worried about being worthy enough to live up to his brothers name, marnie wants to prove her worth enough that spikemuth stops getting overlooked, bede attempts to prove her worth to chairman rose so he knows he didnt make a mistake choosing to sponsor her for the gym challenge
and for gloria she already thinks shes "worthy" of the champion title and all the praise that comes with it (spoilers. no shes not) and victor... well. he's actually the opposite to everyone else in the way that he is kind of Aware he's supposed to be the Worthy, chosen hero but he is trying VERY hard to avoid that destiny

#surprised that the lunter anti s haven't been using 'echoes of the past' as sblings propaganda#the clear cut parallel of luz offering her hand to king when it comes to revisiting the truth about his ancestry#a character she'll later come to call his little brother#like uhhh maybe the fact hunter and luz have no canon sibling bong is confirmation enough that it wasn't the point of it#when there's absolutely nothing set up for luz's connections with titan before WAD chose to take a gigantic shit on the show's themes#esp when hollow mind does the work to connect luz with belos with the whole you and i are very alike villain speech#and of course cannot forget the caleb/evelyn parallels. lunterinas no one will every take that away from you btw#they could've chosen to make evelyn and caleb have a familial bond but nope. caleb impregnated the shit out of her and You Will Know That.#maybe there's some canon evidence that the intention was to follow up on the siblings allegations#but like... then i look back at TTT and how luz calls hunter 'family' in the context of their connection to the hexsquad instead of nocedas#and how TOH commited hard to vee having a familial connection with camila despite how little time they had and it's implied in the-#-timeskip that luz and vee have grown up together as family#(by all means luz/vee shippers go ahead you guys are neat and canon is a mere suggestion)#but yeah like. uhhhhh i'm bery drunk rn can you tell heehee#anyways idk what i was getting here#echoes of the past is still like a 9/10 episode i love it will all my little heart#and maybe the writers had in mind that lunter could develop into a familial bond before they realized the implications of evelyn's existence#and then were like welp. this is awkward now is it. and neither committed to sibling bond or romantic bond#also let it be known that youtube user local has changed my entire outlook on media and you should watch his videos#and he's like a year younger than me. do you want to make out with me white boy. i am free every monday and wednesday#toh#oh wait i have another thought. amiter is a Good ship. way more potential than huntlow#amity has two hands :)#oh nooooooooooo i didn't censor the ship JDHKJFHSKJFHSFHDSKJFHDJKSHFKDSHFJKDSHFJKDSHFJKDSHFJKDSHJKFHDSJKFHDSJKFHDJKSHFJKDSHFJKDSHFJKDSHFJKDH

I still need to do a full deep dive into her mental health sometime but something that does play into how I write Tory is that she has Intermittent Explosive Disorder. When I talk about her experiences sometimes of not being in control of herself and her emotions, I mean that in a literal sense. This is a disorder that leads to impulsive behavior or aggressive outbursts depending on the triggering factors involved that are often disproportionate to a situation. Episodes typically last less than thirty minutes (but can last a lot longer if particularly bad) and depending on what she does while she's experiencing one, they usually lead to intense feelings of shame and guilt afterward because these are not actions that she would rationally choose for herself on a normal day-to-day basis.
It's not the same as, say, a fugue state; she is aware of everything and is consciously making choices, only those choices are affected by a compromised emotional state and are not always rational or proportionate because of that. That's not saying she can't stop herself from lashing out or doing something she shouldn't, but it's much more difficult if something's triggered her into an episode. That being said, she should be held responsible for what she does either way. Her having a disorder =/= she should face no consequences when she does act out. Like I said, she is still fully aware and making conscious choices even during an episode, and she is not completely incapable of stopping herself despite the difficulty in doing so, and it's not wrong to be upset with her for her actions regardless of her mental state.
I feel like she's a lot better about managing it now that she has an actual support system, people who are familiar with her behavior and know how to help her cope when she's not doing too well. She's not always angry or sad anymore and doesn't get triggered into episodes as easily for that reason, especially not after she starts training with Daniel because he played a BIG part in helping her develop some healthier coping mechanisms. Nothing's foolproof and this isn't something that just goes away, of course, so she still has struggles and her bad moments, but she's made a lot of improvements and is a far cry from how volatile she was only a year ago.
But needless to say, this is definitely something that has played into Tory's insecurities and her struggles when it comes to her sense of self. Her emotions really are her "weakness", but not in the way that she believes. She's always had a problem with self-regulation, but the thing is, her shame about it and her attitude that she's "wrong" or "broken" because of it do much more damage to her than merely existing with the disorder ever could. She's getting better, she's learning how to manage and cope, but what she really needs is to just accept that this is part of her and that it doesn't "ruin" her.

Paris Valerian but i redesign his dragon form for funsies based on how i see him=. Not sure if I like this design bc im not a fan of bulkier looking dragons but for Paris I think this works??
Some headcanons about this design:
has a bit of a bull-like look bc I associate bulls with persistence and madness and idk that fits Paris well so if Fian has a ā€œfoxā€ motif Paris gets a ā€œbullā€ one for his dragon formĀ
His design is based a lot on how a stereotypically evil dragon would look???? Because imo OG!Paris reads as a massive antagonist and I think giving him a look that fits that vibe in his dragon form works!! Especially because he still is an antagonist in a way (though god does he not read that way lmao)
heā€™s stronger in his dragon form than Fian is and he uses this to his advantage to bully Fian around whenever they playfight as dragons. That said, it seems Paris is surprisingly gentle towards Fian in this form and never hurts him.
he uses this form to intimidate people into getting what he wants. Heā€™s not used to getting retaliated against while in this form and quickly respects anyone who does so (read: Fian, Lyla and Helene)
the silver scales on his body can glow in the same way his eyes do. Typically, he keeps them dull-colored (see above) but if he feels a strong emotion of any sorts theyā€™ll glow brightly without him meaning to (noticeably: they glow constantly whenever Helene is around for obvious reasons~).
#it hurts to see the person you like cry. but you wouldn't understand-#that Paris#TME#TME art#Paris being weak for Fian is so canon it's literally joked about more than once that they're unnaturally close to each other#i wish the manhwa/LN would elucidate more on the instinctive (and clearly qpt) bond dragons share with each other#and why that bond was overridden in the original story by each dragon's obsession with Helene when they'd yet to imprint on her#man i still remember reading about how Paris felt utterly alone once he awakened as a dragon and Fian coming into his life made him so happ#i still get teary over that passage in particular ahgjgjfgjjh that part of Paris's backstory hits where it hurts lmao#i also really wish the manhwa had included that about Paris because it really fleshed him out knowing that it wasn't that he bonded w/ Fian#that changed him but that he finally FINALLY had someone else who could understand him that made him happier in life and chill TF out#if you pair info given about Paris in the light novel with what's given about his manhwa self he's an amazingly well done character#like ive literally gone from thinking him cringe + unlikable to being deeply invested in and sympathetic to his character#also fun fact i find the idea of Paris and Fian playfighting as dragons really fucking cute#it's not in any way canon (well it kind of is actually lol) but i like hc'ing that awakened dragons need to spend social time together in-#their dragon forms doing shit like playfighting or resting together in order to live happier lives#and unfortunately this kind of qpt relationship is not understood by humans/mermaids/mages hence why Paris went absolutely mad pre-Fian bc#no one around him was capable of understanding the desperation he felt to fill the void in his heart and unfortunately he turned to Helene-#to fill that void to the point he went insane over her to the point he tried to completely monopolize her as a means to salvage himself#(which understandably pisses Helene off in the og timeline to the point it's no wonder she rejects him lmao)#and now that in Lyla's timeline Paris has gotten someone in his life who understands him and fills the void in his heart#he's more than capable of empathizing with Helene and seeing her as a person he wants to genuinely learn more about even if he can't quite-#shake his obsessive tendencies towards her#(which is really really REALLY fun to watch and i hope to see more development from his character)#(because i really do want him to reflect on Fian's words of when it comes to Helene)#(not that I think Helene would ever cry in front of him bc of him but she might do so because of Lyla)#(and god do i wanna see Paris eat his words about finding Fian's romantic-ness corny lmao)#yes i very much can write a whole-ass essay of a character study on Paris he's wildly fascinating#and he's so NOT my type which makes it even funnier that im as fixated on him as i am right now

same with male writers who write all their female characters as the exact same girl with long hair and pale delicate skin whose sole purpose is to ensure the male characters can live happily ever after while making all of the male characters have diverse and interesting storylines that have major effects to the plot with paragraphs of descriptions about what they look like and how they think. btw.
male artists who draw every woman/slightly femme looking person with the same yassified disney elsa face while having the decency to draw men in different and interesting ways are not seeing the light of heaven. btw
#men are not inherently more interesting than women#learn how to write a woman. pretty much the other half of everyone in the world is a woman#this is straight up embarrassing for you#if you are a male author and you do this iā€™m stealing something from ur house.#also specifically iā€™m thinking of bnha how all the male characters are very well written with distinct and interesting personalities#and ambitions and storylines#and the girls all have the exact same body type and personality but like very slightly different#this one is nice but sheā€™s rich. this one is nice but sheā€™s poor. this one is nice but sheā€™s crazy. this one is nice but she is pink.#this one is nice but sheā€™s invisible. this one is nice but sheā€™s sexy. this one is nice but sheā€™s vain. this one is nice but she is a frog.#i could continue#and the backstories for the guys are like ā€˜wow this crucial moment where i experienced adversity that completely changed my way of thinking!#who i was has completely changed! wow character development!#and for the girls itā€™s like ā€˜i wanted to help people yaaay! hereā€™s 2 scenes of my backstory which are only mentioned to further male#story lines and character development! now i will go back to wanting to save people while never experiencing any form of adversity that#will make me question that ambition or change who i am as a person because my story really doesnā€™t matter as much! yaaay!#seriously i feel 0 connection to any of the female characters in bnha because they are all the same and unremarkable to me#i like dekuraka because they are cute together but if you replaced her in canon with someone else or she died i would not really care#toga is kind of interesting cause i like her aesthetic#but sheā€™s literally every yandere character ever sheā€™s not unique

what if the strawhats had different roles on the shipā‰ļø i swapped everyoneā€™s roles except for luffy because i canā€™t imagine him being anything but the captain
these are loose redesigns since their canon designs donā€™t really read as their roles all that much to begin with. some extra doodles and ideas for this in the cut !!
nami, vice captain: i took a lot of inspiration from her beta design!! canon nami already bosses everyone around so she fits right into the role. she wields an extendable staff (usopp still makes it for her); she lost her arm over the time-skip like how zoro lost his eye. i LOVE drawing cargo pants and boots, so she ended up with a sorta bottom-heavy design. frankly itā€™s probably not her style but i like how she looks
Tumblr media
zoro, the cook: my foolproof logic is zoro uses swords = good with knives. he does not use katanas to cut produce however, just normal knives. i was trying to go for ā€œsweaty ramen guyā€ with the towel around his neck. the majority of the shit he cooks would probably be drowned in alcohol. he also wears his bandana the majority of the time now!! it completes the ramen guy look
sanji, the sniper: i also took inspiration from his beta design for this!!! he has guns!! and perfect aim of course. i was going for more of a mafioso look so germa 66 would be like, a mafia organization on top of all the other villain shit they already do. he has two guns but i didnā€™t draw a holster bc thatā€™s annoyingšŸ¤ž he lights his cigarettes with his guns. how would that even work? donā€™t ask me
Tumblr media
usopp, the navigator: his artistic talent lends itself to creating perfect maps! he also still tinkers, making namiā€™s staff as well as having a specialty for compasses. he uses a slingshot still (no perfect aim we gotta nerf him) and shoots weather-related projectiles. his goggles serve as binoculars, they can zoom to several different distances. i drew him in his zou outfit purely bc itā€™s my favorite one
chopper, the helmsman: he would predominately use heavy point while maneuvering the wheel. i changed his hat up to look more like a sailorā€™s cap, with an anchor symbol instead of an X. to be honest i donā€™t have much else bc helmsman doesnā€™t bring much to my mind :(
franky, the musician: ROCK N ROLL BABY YEEAHHH come on his stage presence is unmatched. heā€™s still a cyborg, he has instruments all over his body like apoo does but they were installed manually. his personality changes depending on what genre heā€™s playing but rock n roll is his default B) (ex. classical calls for a refined gentleman)
robin, the shipwright: her devil fruit gives her as many helpful hands as she needs! she developed namiā€™s arm (definitely installed some random shit she did Not ask for). she has a robot mecha that sheā€™s able to pilot all by herself using clones. i changed her orange sunglasses to goggle eyewear
brook, the doctor: the irony of being nursed back to health by a literal skeleton šŸ’€the irony of being the doctor of the rumbar pirates yet being the only survivor, saving no one from the poison šŸ’€ i went for a plague doctor look! IM VERY HAPPY WITH HOW HE TURNED OUT i was really tempted to give him the plague mask too, but i feel that wouldā€™ve changed his appearance too much compared to the others
jinbei, the archaeologist: the shape of this man demands a little pair of round glasses on his face. heā€™s an intellectual i tell you!!! plus still a fishman karate master. the history of joyboy and fishman island being so intertwined is how he developed an interest in history
